I’m especially attracted to landscapes, particularly the contrasts between light and shade, rough and smooth. But often, just for fun, I like to weave abstract shapes on a flat surface into patterns that move in and out and back and forth. To play with shapes and textures and colors from my imagination.
Some of my abstract paintings are based upon real things that have caught my eye, such as the bark of a tree, a pile of brush, curling smoke from a fire, or water running over rocks. Sometimes I start a painting simply by playing around with water and pigment.
I enjoy painting with watercolors because of the fluidity and changeability of the medium.
Recently, I participated in a show benefiting Art in Action (AiA). AiA created an inspiring video about their program featuring students, their parents, and artists Zdenka and I. Watch it here.
